Just a passing thought

Years ago, I had a friend who took her own life.

I never truly knew why.

I only saw fragments of what she was carrying.

People would have called her a Christian.

It did not save her.

What it gave her, more than anything else, was guilt.

The more I grew older, the more I noticed the same pattern repeating itself.

Not just in religion.

In politics.

In ideology.

In movements.

In causes.

In every system that claims to know what people should be.

Eventually, people stop listening to themselves.

They hand over judgment.

They hand over responsibility.

They hand over control.

I'm not saying God doesn't exist.

I'm saying your God doesn't.

The God that always agrees with you.

The God that always hates the people you hate.

The God that always votes the way you vote.

The God that always wants what you want.

That God was never there.

That was just you.
